Škoda Joyster

The stylish Joyster features a large aeroplane-style wraparound windscreen with blacked-out A-pillars and a bold chrome grille, similar to that on the Roomster supermini-MPV. Inside, the newcomer is equipped with a docking station for a laptop, Internet connectivity, changeable seat covers and removable storage pockets on the chair backs.

Several of these clever features are expected to make it into production. For example, the powerful LED headlamps and the split tailgate - which has a pair of built-in seats that fold out for picnics - are likely to be popular with potential buyers.

Ford Mondeo Wagon

The new Mondeo lifts several cues from the Iosis concept that debuted in Frankfurt, which, according to Ford, is defined as 'kinetic design'. The wagon sports an aggressive front fascia, with very pronounced air dams that compliment a set of tautly drawn headlamps. Aft of the a-pillar is typical wagon fare, donning a strong crease in the beltline, which flows into an equally aggressive LED taillight arrangement. Beginning with the S-MAX and Mondeo, Ford maintains that this new "face" of the Blue Oval's European line will carry over to all its models over the coming years.

Honda Remix

Honda's press conference at the 2006 LA Auto Show saw the debut of the REMIX Concept, a purely hypothetical three-door Honda hatch that thinks it's a fighter plane (check out the wraparound cockpit-like windshield and roof-scoop). This little silver bullet reminded us a bit of the Volvo C30 in shape, and it's obvious from Honda's press release that the car's purpose is one and the same: fun to drive and practical to boot. The concept is said to be powered by a four-cylinder motor and swaps cogs with a six-speed transmission. A sport suspension and big brakes are also part of this theorethical equation. Though many see the REMIX and instantly think of a CRX successor, it doesn't sound like that's what Honda's thinking. Then again, a concept's chances for production are directly related to the reaction it invokes from a crowd, so if the REMIX is received well, you never know.

Lamborghini Murciélago LP640

Lamborghini has turned the dial up to 11 for its latest show-stopper, the Murciélago LP640.

Unlike the
Miura concept shown at Detroit in January, the LP640 is very much for real and creates the ultimate road-going version of the company's flagship model.

The LP640 will be unveiled at the Geneva motor show next week, but here we have an exclusive preview of the fastest production Lambo ever built.

A 6.5-litre V12 engine lies at the heart of the LP640, where LP stands for 'longitudinale posteriore', which refers to the V12 unit mounted lengthways behind the cockpit.

With deeper and wider cylinder bores than the previous 6.2-litre V12, the new 6.5 ups power to an imperious 631bhp at 8,000 good-for-the-soul revs per minute.

Coupled to a new six-speed gearbox, which can also be ordered with Lambo's e-gear sequential paddle shift, the LP640 howls from 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds - 0.4 seconds quicker than the 6.2-litre model.

Mitsubishi Concept X

itsubishi is previewing its upcoming new Evo X with two show cars: the Concept-Sportback displayed at Frankfurt and this Concept-X, set to be unveiled at Tokyo. While the Sportback is a hatchback, the Concept-X is a sedan and therefore even closer to the new Evolution X we'll see in 2007. Built on a new platform codeveloped with DaimlerChrysler, the Concept-X has a 2.0-liter turbo four producing well north of 300 hp, a twin-clutch transmission, a further-developed all-wheel-drive system, and lightweight, all-aluminum bodywork. Best of all, the design leaves the current car's econobox roots far behind.

Ferrari 599 GTB

The Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano set a new benchmark of excellence in the sports car world after it was introduced at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show. This stunning new all-aluminum two-seater is summed up rather succinctly by its own name and delivers everything that this promises. Fiorano after the circuit Ferrari uses to hone the performance of its track and road cars; GTB as in Gran Turismo Berlinetta after the most famous Ferrari berlinettas ever built; and 599 to reflect the displacement of its V12 engine divided by 10.

The Ferrari 599 GTB was designed with several specific objectives in mind: to surpass the intense driving pleasure of such renowned models as the F40, to guarantee stunning performance courtesy of its highly innovative content and technology transfers from the F1 single-seaters, and to deliver superior standards of roominess, comfort, ergonomics and safety. The result is the absolute pinnacle of achievement in terms of thoroughbred Ferrari sportiness and technology.

Aston Martin Rapide

And now for something completely different - well quite unexpected anyway. If you have a good knowledge of the Aston Martin marque, you will be aware that almost all models have just two doors. The number of 4 door Aston Martins (and I don't mean Lagonda's) can be counted on just one hand. Well on Monday the 9th of January 2006 at the Detroit Motor Show, Aston Martin stunned the automotive world by unveiling an unbelievably elegant 4 (well 5 door hatch) concept called the Rapide, a name last used on the DB4 based Lagonda Rapide in the early 1960's.

The Rapide has come about because of the flexibility of the Aston Martin VH architecture. The VH platform is made up of extruded aluminium, it is both light and strong but has a very neat trick as it can be modified in both length and width. Thus it is used as the basis of everything from the V8 Vantage, through the DBR9 and onto the Rapide.
